Navigation to Penguin Colony & Estancia Remolino
|
|
We weigh anchor at the tourist pier of Ushuaia and sail over the waters of the Ushuaia bay, with a spectacular view over the capital of Tierra del Fuego and the mountains in the background. Already in the middle of the Beagle Channel we reach the Alicia island, populated by an important colony of imperial cormorants. During the tour we will have the opportunity to observe the majestic Black Eyebrow Albatross, Scuas and different kind of gulls, as well as the funny steamer ducks or Alakush. Our navigation continues through the channel and we reach to the area of the Les Eclaireurs Archipelago. Here you visit the Sea Lion's Island (Isla de los Lobos), where the two typical species of sea lions (one and two hairs) can be observed. Further on we can see a lighthouse, on a island with the same name as the archipielago. It was in this area, where the Cruiser Monte Cervantes sank in 1930. Towards the east we will sail to the Puerto Almanza (Argentina) with the Chilean Isla Navarion and Puerto Williams in front. Later we enter the area of the Mackinlay Pass and sail straight to the Martillo Island to observe the elegant Magellan penguins. The excursion continues now towards the area of the estancia Remolino. On the shore lies the wreck of Monte Sarmiento, which ran aground in September of 1912. Remolino was the refuge, source of work and cultural adaptation for the yámanas, shelk´nam, haush and their descendants. The main building of the estancia is restored. In the rooms you will find a collection of objects found in shipwreck and reproductions of handcraft from the natives of the region. From the pier of estancia Remolino you will sail back to Ushuaia. |
