Sea Lion´s island

Les Eclaireurs

You weigh anchor at the tourist pier of Ushuaia and sail over the waters of the Ushuaia bay, with a spectacular view over the capital of Tierra del Fuego and the mountains in the background. Already in the middle of the Beagle channel you reach the Alicia island, inhabited by an important colony of Imperial cormorants. During the tour you will have the opportunity to observe the majestic black eyebrow albatross, the scuas and different kinds of gulls, as well as the funny steamer ducks or the alakush.

The navigation continues through the channel and you reach the area of the Les Eclaireurs archipelago. Here you visit the Sea Lion's island (Isla de los Lobos), where the two typical species of sea lions (one and two hairs) can be observed. Further on you can see a lighthouse, on an island with the same name as the archipelago. It was in this area, where the cruiser Monte Cervantes sank in 1930.

Towards the east you will sail to the Puerto Almanza (Argentina) with the Chilean Navarion island and Puerto Williams in front. Later you enter the area of the Mackinlay pass and sail straight to the Martillo island to observe the elegant Magellan penguins.

The excursion continues now towards the area of the estancia Harberton, where you will enjoy a short walk through this historical settlement. This estancia belongs to the descendants of Rev. Thomas Bridges, one of the first British missionaries reaching the area. Once the walk is finished, you embark again to initiate our navigation back to Ushuaia sailing through the Guaraní pass, and passing by Puerto Almanza, a small fishing village.
