Lake Escondido

The last foothills of the Andes cordillera extend down to Tierra del Fuego (Land of Fire). The mountains of this region are not higher than 1,400m above sea level. Ushuaia, famous as the southernmost city in the world, is at the same time the only Argentine town on the west side of the Andes mountain range. This mountains give the city a peculiar charm. On clear days, you have a fantastic view to the snowy mountains and the glaciers. On the half-day excursion to the lake Escondido, you will discover this mountain region. First, you will cross the industrial area of Ushuaia, then the excursion leads through the valleys Carbajal, de los Huskies, Tierra Mayor, and Las Cotorras up to its highest point, the Garibaldi Passage (450m). Here, you will enjoy a marvellous panoramic view over the Escondido lake and the Fagnano lake. You will drive down to the Escondido lake, where you will have time for a walk exploring the area and taking pictures. Afterwards, you will return to Ushuaia. |
