Puerto Pirámides

This intensive full day tour shows you the remarkable animal reserve of Peninsula Valdés. The peninsula covers an area of 3,625km² and is connected to the Chubut province by a narrow isthmus. Due to its geographical position, it has its own macroclimate and a fascinating variety of animals to watch. On the road, you will enjoy the fascinating arid landscape and the solitude of Patagonia. Every year the Southern Right whales appear from June to mid-December to give birth. During this time, there are optional boat tours for observing them in direct neighbourhood at Puerto Pirámides. Also during the other seasons, you may observe a lot of other animals. Optional boat tours to the sea lion colony are offered from mid-December to June. From Puerto Piramides the excursion continues to the southern-east point of the peninsula to Punta Delgada. There you will have the possibility to observe the huge sea elephants from very close. This is one of the few places where the sea elephants give birth on the land. At a nearby estancia, with its picturesque lighthouse, lunch will be served. Going northwards to Punta Norte, the northern extreme of the peninsula, you can see another colony of sea elephants. Some kilometres further on south, at the Estancia San Lorenzo, you will find an important station of penguin investigations, where you will be able to observe the social life of these funny animals, which also choose Peninsula Valdés for their procreation. On the way back you may discover more animals like owls, guanacos, ñandúes (South American ostrich), maras (Patagonian rabbits), and being lucky you will even be able to see grey foxes.
