 Cerro Torre
 Cerro and glacier
|
This other classical one-day trekking tour goes up to the lagoon Torre at the foothill of Cerro Torre, a polished, vertical granite needle in the middle of the massive of mount Fitz Roy.
The first part, leaving El Chaltén, begins quite steeply until you reach a forested plateau with nice views over the river de las Vueltas. The trail is well marked and now continues flatter, all along the Fitz Roy river. After a short walk, you can already admire the vertiginous peak of Cerro Torre.
Later, the glaciers Torre and Grande appear. Just before arriving to the lagoon, you get to the camp Padre d' Agostini, a free camping place. It is one of the most crowded camps of the region, as it is a base camp for many climbing expeditions of the area. It is not allowed to light fire here as the entire area is within the national park Los Glaciares.
After 500m walking along the river, you arrive at the lagoon Torre with magnificent views. Just in front of you rises mount Torre with the glacier Torre, the Adela chain, and the peaks of the mounts Mocho, Egger, Standhardt, Bifida, and Cuatro Dedos (four fingers). On the same way you walk back to El Chaltén, now observing the landscape with a different daylight. |
