Mendoza is an expanding and very pleasant city. Some people consider it the nicest city in Argentina. Rainfall is rare, but irrigation has turned the area into an oasis of fruit trees and vineyards. Just like a great work of art, Mendoza can be characterized for its aesthetic distribution of light and natural life that creates a man-made oasis in the middle of the desert. Mendoza was completely destroyed by fire and earthquake in 1861, so today it is essentially a modern city of low dwellings, thickly planted with trees and gardens. On your tour you will visit the city centre with its main street “Avenida San Martín”, pass by the pedestrian zone and continue to the large main square. Around the Civic Centre, you will see the Government House as well as the Court of Justice. Further west, the Customs and Conference Centre Buildings are undoubtedly majestic constructions within an Ecologic Park, surrounded by sculptures and water fountains. You can share the natural beauty of Mendoza during the visit of the extensive park named Parque General San Martin where you can find many diverse kinds of trees. The Anfiteatro, where the annual Fiesta Nacional de la Vendimia is held, the stadium, the University, and six sport clubs are located in this park. The artificial lake is famous for its boat tours. At the end of the tour, you will drive to another extension of this immense park. The “Cerro de la Gloria” is a viewpoint above the park on the west side of the city, which is crowned by the monument to San Martin. |
