This excursion offers you an interesting sight on the history, the flora and fauna of the region, and its actual rural activities. You can appreciate a great view over the lake Argentino with the snow capped Andean peaks in the background. At Centinela river, you will have the chance to visit the largest estancia (farm) of the Santa Cruz province, the estancia Anita. You will have an insight into the actual rural live. You visit the main buildings of the estancia and will observe the sheep shearers at work, depending on the season. You continue the trip and soon you will enter the national park. After a 800m walk through the woods, you will find interesting cavemen paintings from the time before the Tehuelche Indians. The trip continues to the estancia Nibepo Aike, located close to the Roca lake. There you have the possibility to taste a typical lunch – lamb barbecue. In the afternoon, you can choose between horseback riding or some individual walking in the area of the Roca lake, known for its abundant Rainbow trout and Canadian trout livestock. However, it is just an excuse to come back and admire the glaciers from another point of view. The Cervantes Hill, full of hanging glaciers, dominates the area; you will be hearing the sound of the falling ice blocks. A few metres away from there the straits of La Angostura join the Brazo Rico with the Roca lake. It is a vast land full of dry logs of trees consumed by the water during the big flows when the glacier dams up the water. At about 5 o'clock you will be back in El Calafate. |
