 Walk with guides
 Crampons for walking
 Basic ice trekking
|
On this extraordinary excursion you will have full contact with the legendary Perito Moreno glacier and the surrounding untouched nature. From El Calafate you reach the harbour Bajo las Sombras, about 22km after the entrance of the national park Los Glaciares, 8km away from the glacier. From there you sail to the opposite shore of the Peninsula Magellanes, crossing the Brazo Rico. Navigation time is about 20 minutes. Specialized guides lead the groups of about 20 people along the shore where you reach the ice giant on a foot walk of about 30 minutes. Here you are given iron crampons to put on your trekking shoes, an indispensable accessory for save trekking on ice. The guides explain the basics of ice trekking and offer you plenty of information about the glaciers and the local fauna and flora. From here you start the trekking on the surface of Perito Moreno.
The tour takes about 2 hours, including some stops to take pictures. It is a unique opportunity to appreciate the different formations of ice, the drainages and crevasses. The multifarious shades of the ice are spectacular. Wear sunglasses to protect your eyes. You return to the shore of Brazo Rico through the neighbouring woods, with a different view to the glacier.
Back in the shelter, the starting point, you will be able to enjoy your picnic (not included). Before the boat brings you back to the Peninsula Magellan, it approaches the impressing walls of Perito Moreno and enables you to have a real impression of its extensive proportions. For this trip we recommend you to wear trekking boots not training shoes, to bring along gloves, sunglasses and a lunch box for the picnic. The shelter has neither gastronomic facilities nor a place where to buy food. |
