This excursion gives you the opportunity to visit the capital of Uruguay and to appreciate the hospitality of the Uruguayan people. The bus picks you up in the morning at your hotel and drives you to the harbour. With a ferryboat, you cross the river de la Plata and reach the harbour of Montevideo, Uruguay, in 3 hours (on request, also flights from Buenos Aires to Montevideo are available). Montevideo is, with about 1.3 million inhabitants, the biggest city in Uruguay. It is the economic and cultural centre of the country. The city tour starts south of the harbour, including the visit to the old town and historic places. The Constitución Square is the oldest and main square of the city and it is also called Matriz Square. Here you will find the Cathedral, built around 1800, as well as the Cabildo (former townhouse and now museum). The tour continues to the beautiful Independencia Square, where you will enjoy the marvelous antique architecture of the surrounding buildings. The most important business street in Montevideo is the 18th-of-July Avenue (Avenida 18 de Julio) where the new part of the city begins. By bus, we drive past the impressive Congress Hall and along the rose garden up to a little viewpoint, 150m over the sea level, from where there is a beautiful view over the city and its beaches. The way back leads across residential neighbourhoods and the city-beaches, back to the harbour. The ferryboat brings you back to the harbour of Buenos Aires, where you will be brought to your hotel. |
