Day 01Tucumán |
Reception of your rental car. Tucumán is an important centre in the Northwest. It is the city where independence was declared. Visit the open air museum with its interesting sound and light performance at night. Overnight at Tucumán. |
Day 02Tafi del Valle |
Leave the city of Tucumán towards the south and take the road to Tafi del Valle. Soon after, the road winds up the hill through tropical rain forest. Tafi del Valle is an important holiday town in the northwest. It lies on the central valley and enjoys good weather all year long. Continue over a mountain pass. The landscape becomes very dry and huge cactus can be seen. Continue till Quilmes, a pre-Inca town where you can observe the ruins. Overnight at a small hotel at Quilmes. |
Day 03Cafayate |
Walk around this interesting archaeological site and learn the history of this ancient culture at the visitor centre. Then, continue for 50km to the town of Cafayate. This village is like an oasis in the semi-deserted landscape. It is the second most important vine grower area in Argentina. Visit one of the local wineries and enjoy a good glass of Torrontes with your lunch. In the afternoon, we suggest a drive into the Canyon of Cafayate. The interesting rock formations turn red under the evening sun. Overnight at Cafayate. |
Day 04Molinos |
Drive through one of the most spectacular landscapes in Argentina to Molinos and Cachi. The unpaved road leads through colorful canyons full of astonishing rock formations. The colours change in the different daylights. Some typical small rural villages are passed on the way where local customs can be observed. In the evening, arrival at the small village of Cachi. Overnight at Cachi. |
Day 05Cuesta de Obispo |
Enjoy this beautiful and typical rural village in an early morning walk to the main square. Indians from the near-by area come to sell their goods at the local market. Afternoon drive over a fantastic high plateau. At Cuesta de Obispo you reach a mountain pass from where you descend by a winding road back to the main valley and to Salta. Overnight at Salta. |
Day 06San Lorenzo |
Salta is considered the most beautiful colonial city in Argentina. It is worth spending a day at this place and enjoy the nice atmosphere. Different colonial churches can be visited. There is a great view from the hill behind the city. Or drive to the residential San Lorenzo for a lunch in a typical Parrilla-Restaurant. Salta has a lot to offer and for many people it is their favourite town. Overnight at Salta. |

Drop-off your car at the airport and continue your individual programme. |
